“LIVE THROUGH THIS”
LYRIC ESSAY by:
Raised from the dead only to/ stall out in a rented Toyota halfway/ to the meeting place. That’s how badly/ I wanted to talk to you again. Forever/ is as true a word as any for as long as it takes/ to get it out of your pretty little leaf dry mouth
“WHY THE ICE CREAM MACHINE IS BROKEN”
Emily is a visual artist, designer and owner of Toki Tattoo, a tattoo shop in Western North Carolina at the center of the contemporary tattoo movement. Recently, Emily has turned to animation to continue the visual themes and playful world building emblematic of her work as a tattoo artist and illustrator.
My mother once/ Spent three weeks in her/ Sanctuary/ And never once came down to the creek/ Never twice swore an oath/ And only 3 times drank water/ Strong as the minnows/ Swimmin and slitherin between her toes/ A boy wading through handshakes
PHOTOGRAPHY AND POEM by:
dusty firmament sowed light/ on fragments of glass and sand./ lost insight!/ oh, what depths are left for me here./ a torrid plane/ amid thick fog,/ or the quiet closing of a door
